The question we hear most from ODs on Finance members is whether this is really as reliable as the Humphrey. It is a fair question, and it has been put to the test and presented at ARVO and ASCRS. Three studies compared head-mounted VR perimetry directly against the Humphrey Field Analyzer. Across 143 eyes, mean deviation, pattern deviation and visual field index correlated closely between the two devices, and none of the three found a statistically significant difference in detecting the presence of disease. One also recorded a shorter mean test time, with fewer false positives.

Absolute decibel values differ between the two platforms because of background luminance differences — expected, documented, and does not change clinical interpretation, which the studies found comparable throughout.
